Website mistakes that could be costing you business

OMG Solutions - website mistakes and how to fix them

You don’t need a flashy, over-the-top website to make an impact - but you do need one that works for your business, not against it.

Over the years I’ve seen some common issues crop up that can quietly turn potential customers away. The good news? Most are easy to fix once you know what to look for.

Here are a few things that might be costing you business (and how to turn them around):

1. Confusing navigation

If someone can’t find what they need in a few clicks, they’ll likely give up and go elsewhere. Menus should be clear, logical, and consistent across the site.

Quick fix: Keep your main menu simple and prioritise key pages like Home, About, Services, and Contact.

2. Outdated information

Old event dates, pricing that’s changed, or products you no longer offer? It’s not a great look. Outdated info can create doubt and confusion—and affect your credibility.

Quick fix: Set a reminder to check your content every couple of months, or after any big change in your business.

3. No contact details

You’d be surprised how many websites make it hard to get in touch. A contact page isn’t enough if there’s no phone number, form, or working email address.

Quick fix: Make sure your contact info is visible on multiple pages - footer, contact page, and even your homepage if that makes sense for your business.

4. Slow load times

If your website takes too long to load, people will click away before they even see your content. It also affects your Google rankings.

Quick fix: Compress images, avoid unnecessary animations, and check with your website provider about speed performance.

5. Not mobile-friendly

More than half of web traffic these days is on mobile. If your site only looks good on a desktop, you're potentially losing a big slice of your audience.

Quick fix: Check your website on your phone - if it’s hard to use, it might be time for a refresh or redesign.

Your website should help you grow - not hold you back

If any of these sound familiar, don’t panic. These kinds of fixes are all part of keeping your site healthy and working for your business.
