New Year New Website

It’s annual website review and refresh time

I notice around January each year I get an influx of calls from businesses ready to review their online presence, most specifically their website.

Whether it is an existing client looking to refresh their website, or a new client ready to make the leap online (or change what doesn’t work with their current website) it is always about the same time of the year this happens.

Any why not, right?

It’s a new year, we’ve had a break and we’ve had a chance to review our business goals and direction for the coming year. If your website and other other strategic marketing activities didn’t fit into the review then now is the time to take a look.

Why review your website?

You may have changed services, added products, or changed pricing last year and with the hustle and bustle in the lead up to Christmas just not got around to looking at your website.

Now’s the time to pause, and review. Ideally you want to be reviewing your website every quarter to ensure it is up to date and meeting the needs of your clients and prospective clients.

What to review:

Google Analytics

Check out your website visitors:

  • Where are they coming from (eg. Social, organic search, direct)

  • Are they using your contact forms

  • Are they making purchases

  • What they are clicking on, and

  • Are they engaging with your content.

  • Reviewing these stats can help shape your content marketing plan for the next quarter.

Your Content

Take a look with fresh eyes, better yet ask a colleague or trusted client to review. Consider:

  • Is your content reflective of your messaging, your brand goals and marketing strategy?

  • Do you have one clear call to action per page?

  • Are your images up to date, check team images and blurbs – is this page still current?

  • Do you have lead magnets, and are they still relevant, are they meeting your goals still?

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO changes constantly. It's important to stay ahead of the search engines and revisit and update your SEO strategy regularly.

  • Check your meta descriptions (the short summary Google shows searchers) and page names are reflective of any other changes you make to content on your website pages.

  • Review the primary keyword for each page to ensure it matches the page content, and what users are searching for.

Blogging / Articles

It's important to review any articles you’ve written to ensure they are still relevant and up-to-date for your audience. It's also a great opportunity to:

  • See what content you can reuse and repurpose.

  • Make a plan for the year for your monthly articles to ensure good coverage and to promote Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) on your website.

Testing and Technical

Just like our smoke alarms need testing so too do various elements on your website:

  • Check links in your content are still working to external sites

  • Check any call to actions links to ensure they aren’t going to broken pages

  • Test your forms to make sure you are receiving them

  • If your website is hosted by us through Rocketspark you can rest easy knowing the team manages all the technical aspects of your site once it’s live to ensure it’s always secure and up to date.

Social Platforms and Online Directories

Review your Google Business listing, Email Marketing account, CRM, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media platforms ensuring the contact details and about sections are all up to date and reflective of where your business is heading this year.

Finally, make a list of what needs updating on your website and social media platforms so you can begin to prioritise what needs doing.

Your website is your storefront to the world and you want a robust site that does your business justice.

If your website is no longer reflecting your business the way that you would like it to, please get in touch. We enjoy working with clients to refresh the old and bring in the new.
