I have had my share of frustrating experiences with navigating around Google's business offerings, from managing multiple pages and accounts to working with multiple business.
Things may be looking up, Google My Business is looks set to change this, and life may get easier! It will certainly be worth monitoring and experiment with over the coming months to measure its effectiveness.
But first, what is the point?
According to Google, My Business is going to help business owners get more exposure online. So, if you put two and two together, it a no brainer. If you want your business to rank well and be found on Google set yourself up on Google My Business.
Google My Business offers business owners everything they need to get started on Google all in one easy to use interface, by combining it's exisiting Google +, Pages, Maps and Search with some new features. There is an Andriod app available, with iOS coming soon.
What to do next
Build a profile page
Head to the Google My Business main dashboard.
If you already have an account Sign In, you will be redirected to My Business, where you can take a tour and suss out what is new.
Or choose Get on Google.
Begin typing in your business name, once you find it click on it, and if you have already verified ownership you will be redirected to the My Business Dashboard. If not you will be walked through the process of how to do this.
From here you enter business information like hours, phone number, a website link and images.
Most importantly claim and verify your business listing.
If you are not a local business, you will click on the link in the top right, here there are options for storefront, services and brand. This will give you a different type of listing.
Features of Google My Business
Share your photos, links, videos and events.
Once your business is verified you can see how well your posts are engaging, access demographics of your followers and gain insight into your visibility.
These can now be left on your Google+ Page, each business is given a Google rating and you can manage your reviews on Google and around the Internet.
You can start your own hangout, and join others.
Google My Business Locations
Google My Business Locations is a handy new feature, still in its infancy, will allow you to manage multiple locations under one account.
And finally if you have got in the conundrum of having multiple Google Maps for your business, you can now merge them.
