Not only does this new Facebook feature allow you to prioritise your friends, you can also favourite business pages, ensuring your latest posts show up high in your News Feed.
Jacob Frantz, Facebook product manager, explains the News Feed ranking algorithm this way: "The goal of News Feed is to show you the stories that matter most to you. To do this, we use ranking to order stories based on how interesting we believe they are to you: specifically, whom you tend to interact with, and what kinds of content you tend to like and comment on."
What ranking your friends and pages means for business
Now, more than ever, you need to be posting content that is relevant to your audience. If your Facebook page is not providing timely, meaningful, useful content, your followers will choose to either unfollow you, or keep you on the default setting. (The default setting uses Facebook's ranking algorithm.) By providing content your followers want to see, they may be more likely to "Favourite" your business.
Available only on iOS and Android, for the moment, Facebook will also be rolling this feature out to desktop in the coming weeks.
